About Clare Feeney she / her
Hello. I’m Teaching and Learning Lead in a large secondary school in North East England. Over the past few years, I’ve worked on our whole-school priorities including reading and disciplinary literacy. Currently, I’m a Literacy Special Practitioner for our MAT. I also do consultancy work for The National Literacy Trust which includes writing resources and running CPD sessions with a particular focus on Literacy in PE and Disciplinary Writing. Please contact me via Twitter if your school is interested in any Literacy training either with certain departments, or the whole-school.
I’ve taught English at secondary level for over 25 years. In that time, I’ve built up a wide-range of experience in a variety of professional roles from departmental responsibilities to pastoral work. I’ve also undertaken a Local Authority Secondment, working on raising achievement post-16.
I present at conferences on aspects of teaching and learning, and write articles for educational publications such as the Times Education Supplement and the National Association of Teaching English.
I’m also part of a Critical Language Awareness (CLA) working party based at the English and Media Centre. We’re developing approaches to teaching CLA in schools.
